His Needs
Jens is s Supply Chain Executive who enjoys competitive soccer in his spare time.
His Problem
He suffered a ligament injury in college and over time his knee had become very arthritic.
A knee replacement had been recommended, but because of he’s young, he didn’t want to go that route just yet. Although he was in constant pain with the knee, his worst problems came after playing soccer – causing him to limp around for a day or two afterward.
His Therapy
On examination, Jens was found to have a knee flexion contracture, meaning that his chronic inflammation had cuased his knee to stiffen up, not allowing it to extend fully. There’s an old orthopedic axiom “A straight knee is a happy knee” that became the focus of our therapy.
Jens treatments focused on restoration of his flexibility and knee extension, then integrating his soccer and other activities. We put him in touch with a brace representative who has customized braces for Jens problem as well.
Results
While his knee does continue to be painful, he has been able to continue soccer with less pain afterward, and put off a knee replacement as well.
